Communications Manager - Open

 

The Pelham Art Center is seeking a strategic creative thinker and strong communicator to lead its communications effort. Founded in 1969, the Pelham Art Center (PAC) is a nonprofit educational and cultural institution committed to providing the public access to see, study and experience the arts, foster lifelong arts appreciation and thereby strengthen the community.  The position is located at our gallery and educational facility, in downtown Pelham, serving 16,000 people in lower Westchester and its environs. This is a part-time position with flexible hours.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Manager will play a key role in elevating PAC’s visibility and strategic position as a leading arts organization in Westchester County.  Generally, the Communications Manager will lead our effort to streamline our messages and build on our strong reputation in the arts community, foster existing and new relationships, and developing our network and reach in Lower Westchester. This will include maintaining our new website, managing our outreach through Constant Contact and by other traditional and new modes of communication and executing our social media strategy. The Manager will draft press releases and coordinate with media outlets; s/he will draft presentation materials, including written and visual presentations, and craft content such as promotional images, fliers, digital media, etc.

Minimum Requirement:  The successful candidate will be a strong writer and excellent communicator with exceptional interpersonal skill. S/he will have experience with graphic design and brand management. Proficiency with all Microsoft office applications is required. A background in the arts is preferred, and interest in Art is a must. The Communications Manager will represent the Art Center at special events, gallery openings, fundraisers, and folk art events. The successful candidate will be a flexible, team player, curious, organized, with a desire to learn and a sense of humor. S/he he will have demonstrated success working with colleagues from various areas of expertise and backgrounds.

Details: This position has flexible hours – the position can be 6 hours/ 5 days per week, or 4 full time days, balanced with Special events such as gallery openings, public programs, fundraisers, and folk art events. Some nights/weekends may be required. The Communications Manager will be eligible for complimentary classes at the Art Center and household family members. S/he will receive a paid parking pass for Pelham. PAC will provide health insurance at a reasonable cost to the employee. The position also offers paid time off work for both vacation and sick time, as well as a generous holiday schedule. Certain additional specialty discounts may also be available.

An annual salary of $31,200. Is being offered for this position.

Estimated start date is March 1st, 2019.

Internships

Internships at the Pelham Art Center offer experience for working at a community based non-profit arts center. We are seeking college students and or recent graduates for the below intern positions.

All interns may take one art class at the Pelham Art Center free of charge.

Candidates must be passionate about visual art and motivated to gain experience in a Art Center setting. We are looking for candidates who take direction, and work well within a team or independently as needed. We expect our interns to be presentable and professional, as they act as the initial representatives of the Art Center.

Marketing/PR Intern

  • Must be tech savvy
  • Comfortable writing
  • Draft press releases
  • Knowledgeable of social media
  • Must make a minimum 3 month commitment to the Pelham Art Center
  • Must be available 2 days per week/12 hours per week
  • Learn directly from the Executive Director and Education Manager
  • Comfortable drafting visuals and correspondences
  • Creative Suite knowledge strongly encouraged

 

Event and Volunteer Management Intern

  • Work directly with the Executive Director to build teen volunteer program
  • Excited about community event production and program development
  • Must be available one day a week and for special events
  • Learn directly from the Executive Director and Education Manager
  • Must make a minimum 6 month commitment to the Pelham Art Center

Volunteers

Volunteer are vital to the Pelham Art Center. Volunteers can help with a variety of projects including, event set-ups, art studio teaching assistants, Folk Art events, and more.

Volunteers must be available for some select classes/events throughout the year on an as needed basis.
