    Suggested Materials


    • 11×15” Canson watercolor pad (140lb, 30 sheet pad)*
    • 11×14” Strathmore Bristol pad (20 sheet pad)*
    • 18×24” watercolor paper or any larger size paper


    Drawing/Painting Media:

    • Ph. Martin’s Bombay Inks (at least 3 colors, full set suggested) OR Watercolors (any set/brand will work, these vary greatly from kids cheap sets to Winsor & Newton professional sets)
    • Black Ink (suggested bottle of India ink with stylus/tips or bamboo stylus)
    • Various markers/pens/drawing tools
    • Optional: acrylic paint pens



    • A variety of watercolor brushes – small, medium and large. White synthetic sable is best, but any kind will work.
    • Bamboo writing/drawing stylus for ink


    Blue painters tape (1-1.5in width)

    Salt, saran wrap and paper towels

    Cutting tool (scissors, x-acto knife or paper cutter)

    Optional: Ebony pencils, charcoal, water soluble crayons and pastels


    * Please have 6-10 pieces of watercolor paper in the size 4×6” for the first class. You can use the 11×15” sheet and pre-cut accordingly. We will be using these pieces for getting started exercises.

This workshop will focus on drawing, painting, writing, and collage techniques to document life experiences, emotional states, and narratives with an emphasis on using art as a creative tool for healing. Creating works that journal life experiences will be the primary focus of this workshop.  Open to high school students and adults who aim to use art as a tool for introspective reflection using mixed media to build skills for unconventional journaling techniques.
