Spring Workshop

Chinese Brush Painting and Beyond

We will start with a brief introduction of Chinese brush painting and the materials that will be utilized to create the paintings. For the beginner, you will learn how to paint “four gentlemen,” bamboo, plum blossom, wild orchid and chrysanthemum, which represent the seasons. For the advanced student, you will expand your knowledge and learn to paint flowers, birds, landscape, etc. Short demonstrations will happen at the start of the class. We will explore Xie-Yi style which translates to “freehand” or “spontaneous.” This workshop will focus on quality of strokes, ink preparation and loading, rhythm, movement, energy (chi), composition and more. No prior experience required. All levels welcome.

A materials fee of $15 will be due at the first workshop session. That will cover all materials.
