Fall Class

Color Mixing Beyond the Rainbow
This class has reached its capacity of students.
Ever look at the colors in your palette and wonder how to get the right shade of red or blue, for example, to match that red rose or pair of blue jeans you’re trying to draw or paint? In this class, we will review the basics of painting with acrylic gouache and how to mix colors from paint tubes to match observed colors. We will also learn how to create dimension and space with color. Topics covered include what brushes to use and how to use them, what colors of paint to use for a basic palette, how to set up your paint workspace, and what to paint on. In addition, expand your artistic knowledge in terms of color theory in art history, specifically in western art. Color mixing exercises will give you a better understanding of value ranges, saturation ranges, and temperature. Finally, painting from observation (still lifes) will allow you to apply all these wonderful topics and techniques to your own work!
