    Blue Paper Towels (Home Depot)

     

    8” x 10” canvas or canvas board ( before coming to class, tone the canvas with a light wash – pale in color – using raw umber mixed with a very small amount of Gamasol. Please do this a few days in advance so that the paint is dry) Any questions, contact me – letiziagentile27@gmail.com

     

    Wood Palette or Grey Matters Paper Palette

    Masterson stay-wet palette seal box or any airtight container to seal your mixed paint for the following session.

This class is an introduction to a classical method of painting a portrait of a live model in a sustained pose. Foundational techniques will inspire and help students explore what makes a painting successful. Through a step-by-step process starting with the Underpainting to Color Underpainting to Final Layer, students will learn about composition, light and shadow, proportion, anatomy and color mixing. Underpainting Layer – Composition and the separation of light and dark

Color Underpainting – Gradation of value to create a three dimensional form

Final Layer – Application of paint through techniques such as glaze and scumble
