This class has reached its capacity of students.
Clay is the perfect medium for exploration! It bends to the touch and provides results dramatically in contrast to one’s expectations. It demands respect and with time, will cede beautifully to the will of the artist. This class will address surface decoration and an exploration of form. Students will learn techniques that will focus on slab construction to create plates, trays, decorative sculptural work and more. Surface techniques will include the use of slips, underglazes, inlay, and transfer printing with the added introduction of collage. Working in response to the natural properties of clay always leads to a new experience. Integrating color through glaze, mixed media, and paper make this an exciting world to explore. No prior experience necessary.
Please note: This class will focus on the flexible properties of working with thin slabs of clay. Wheel throwing will not be covered in this class.
