What can the early Chinese scholar artists can teach us about enjoying the beauty in nature? Join Pelham Art Center for a free 3-part art history discussion with Shilpi Chandra.
Perhaps now that our lives have slowed and as we wake up to the loveliness of spring each morning, perhaps the simple beauty of an undulating branch of a blossoming tree may catch our attention. The Chinese scholars appreciated the humble gifts of nature in all seasons — the majesty of a towering pine tree or the ragged edges of a huge boulder – and captured those images on ink and paper. They “perfected” the art of painting a thousand years ago and in every age since then, Chinese artists have looked back at this tradition and interpreted it to their circumstances. Shilpi Chandra will introduce the art historical dimensions of Chinese Landscape Painting through three 30 minute Zoom lectures:
