Intuition Quartet is greater than the sum of its members by sheer musical alchemy. The artists’ personalities and performance backgrounds — from classical, rock, and blues, to R & B, jazz, folk and pop — combine to create a colorful, dynamic and inspiring listening experience for people from all walks of life. Based in Westchester County, NY, Intuition Quartet performs in New York-area clubs, festivals, concert series and private venues. Their debut album Rendezvous (2019) and their live performances co-feature instrumentals and vocals as a quartet or quintet with their drummer Brian. Intuition members are Hope Berkeley, harmonica; Pam Sklar, flute; Irene Maher, guitar and lead vocals; Joan Indig, bass and lead vocals. Previously known as the Blues Mothers, their album You Can’t Cancel a Subscription to the Blues was released in 2013.
Songwriter, guitarist and vocalist, IRENE MAHER’s style is heavily influenced by the music and culture of the 1960’s. In collaboration with flutist Pam Sklar, she was a Billboard Magazine Award winner for her song On the Horizon. Other musical highlights include Irene’s original Silver Bird reaching #8 on the charts on Women of Substance Radio, and two other originals recorded on the Blues Mothers debut album. Four more originals are included on Intuition Quartet’s album Rendezvous.
Instrumentalist and songwriter HOPE BERKELEY is well known in the New York metropolitan area for her creative and soulful harmonica stylings. Drawing on Chicago blues as well as jazz influences, she has played with numerous local groups and was a founding member of the Blues Mothers band.
Flutist and composer PAM SKLAR collaborates with ensembles playing different musical styles including classical, jazz, ethnic, pop, improvisational, and progressive rock. A member of Angels in the Chamber, Pam’s playing can be heard around New York and on many recordings for well-known artists. Performances and/or broadcasts of her original music have been presented in Spain, Cuba, Brazil, and around Europe.
Inspired by rock & roll, bass player and vocalist JOAN INDIG picked up the bass after playing guitar in her formative years. A member of Intuition since the band was formed in 2014, Joan is known around Westchester County for her engaging harmonies and bass playing in the rock bands Riverrun and Ginger Moon, and in the singer-songwriter trio Purrll. Joan’s other bands included the Blues Mothers and a family band Indignation.
