About Carol
Originally from Cleveland, Diamond received a BFA in painting from Cornell University and continued her studies at the New York Studio School. Since 2000 Diamond has taught at Pratt Institute where she is an Adjunct Associate Professor. She currently teaches graphic design at CUNY’s City College of Technology and has also been an art instructor at NYU, the Chautauqua Institute, and Lehman College. Awards and Grants include the Pratt Institute Professional Development Grant, a Purchase Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letter’s Invitational Exhibition, the National Academy Museum’s Edwin Palmer Prize and a Vermont Studio Center Residency. Her work is included in public and private collections.
Settling in Brooklyn in the late 1980’s, Diamond became active in the Williamsburg-Bushwick art scene. She continues to exhibit in group and solo shows around New York City, Upstate New York, and nationally. Recent solo shows include Carol Diamond: New Works at the Eyes of Main Street Gallery in Wilson, North Carolina, On the Street at The Painting Center in Chelsea, 2019, and Threshold: Selected Works at Kent State University in Ohio, 2018. Recent group shows include: En Masse, Chatham, New York, HYGGE, Saugerties, New York, Sideshow Nation, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and Foundation Faculty Exhibition, at Pratt Institute, in Brooklyn, New York. Diamond has been interviewed by PaintingPerceptions.com, and has written art reviews for ArtCritical.com, PaintersonPainting.com, TwoCoatsofPaint.com, and DeliciousLine.com.
Diamond’s recent multimedia body of work is comprised of oil paintings, found object assemblage sculpture, relief collages in cement and plaster on wood panel, mixed media works on paper, and Plein Air drawings of Architectural sites in New York City. All works are done concurrently and examine themes of Urban life through a subjective lens.
