PAC is Hiring! Gallery & Events Manager Position
The Pelham Art Center is seeking a strategic, creative thinker and strong communicator to provide support for Pelham Art Center gallery exhibitions, public art, programs, and events. Founded in 1970, Pelham Art Center is a leading non-profit educational and cultural institution committed to providing access to study, experience and appreciate the arts. The position is located at our gallery and educational facility, with occasional off site work, in downtown Pelham in lower Westchester County.
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Executive Director, and working in collaboration with a supportive team, the Gallery & Events Manager plays a key role in PAC’s mission and development. The role includes public facing interactions and responsibility for all gallery exhibitions, public art, and PAC events including public programs, VIP relations and fundraising events. This is a full-time position, Tuesday – Saturday is preferred and flexible depending on programmatic need.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage events and gallery programs
- Receive general inquiries about Gallery.
- Work closely with all Art Center Staff to support ongoing programs.
- Coordinate and organize 6-8 art exhibitions per year with guidance from Executive Director and Gallery Advisory Board including artist loan forms, guest curator contracts, performance and presenter agreements.
- Manage biennial Rutsch Award competition with artist submissions on Café, and additional artist or curatorial open calls when needed.
- Maintain excellent understanding of exhibitions in order to convey content to visitors.
- Coordinate with a gallery installer/art handler on installation and de-installation of exhibits, and art shipping as needed. Light art handling and gallery maintenance required.
- Collect content from artists, guest curators, performers, etc for communications & marketing needs, including promotional materials such as gallery postcards, signs, press releases and social media as appropriate.
- Maintain gallery and event portion of website as needed.
- Required to attend and lead 4-6 Gallery Advisory meetings per year.
- Attend and be a PAC representative for Public Programs in Gallery including Receptions, artist talks, Folk Art Events, Concerts and Lectures as well as 4-6 offsite events annually.
- Cultivate relationships with arts leaders and other stakeholders.
- Manage visitation statistics for grants, budgets for program activities and supplies.
- Administrate public art projects and programs in PAC’s outdoor courtyard, building and Wolf’s Lane Park, an extension of art center, next to the MNR Pelham Station.
- Manage Artist Club: develop workshops and other professional development opportunities for these members.
- Front Desk responsibilities on Fridays, Saturdays, and when needed.
- Assist with development needs such as memberships and fundraisers as needed with Executive Director and PAC staff.
- Assist with administrative needs: Data input for CRM system of Art Center artists, members & class/workshop/camp registrants, updating mailing lists, and more.
- Draft and schedule various email communications using Constant Contact
- Work closely with interns, Teen Artist Council, and Teen Engagement Coordinator. Coordinate volunteers and interns as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS and EXPERIENCE
- Must have familiarity with regional arts and cultural landscape;
- Relevant experience in art, galleries, curating, or non-profit arts;
- BA in a related field with work experience in cultural organization, gallery, or administration;
- Excellent organizational, analytical, problem solving, and interpreting data skills to plan and implement projects;
- Well-organized, attentive to details, and goal-oriented;
- Effective communicator of ideas and instructions;
- Excellent computer skills: proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, GSuite, Zoom, and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram); PowerPoint, Adobe Suite, and/or Canva a plus; Creative Suite knowledge a plus, non-profit online database management (NEON or CiviCRM) preferred;
- Be an upbeat team player who can multitask and collaborate as needed for the greater good of the Art Center, has a good sense of humor and positive attitude;
- Ability to interact effectively with all kinds of people from diverse backgrounds;
- Valid NY state driver’s license;
- Ability to lift 25 lbs preferred
Must love art and have a knowledgeable background in contemporary art practices. Exhibition, gallery, or non-profit art experience required. The Gallery & Events Manager will be a representative of the Art Center at special events such as gallery openings, fundraisers, and public programs.Tech savvy, with professional communication and writing ability required. Knowledge of graphic design or website maintenance is a plus. Must be a clear and effective communicator with a positive attitude and collaborative spirit. Details: This position is full time. Tuesday – Friday, 9am-5pm and Saturdays 9:45am-4:15pm. PAC public events are usually Thursday evenings or Saturday afternoons. This position aims to start in March 2023. A detailed schedule of the upcoming 6 months will be discussed during the interview process.

The position offers paid time off work for both vacation and sick time, as well as a generous holiday schedule. Certain additional specialty discounts may also be available.
Annual salary range: $50,000-$55,000.
